
Global Family of Small Hydro Power
Initiated by international organizations such as the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), along with the Ministry of Water Resources, P. R. China and the Ministry of Commerce, P. R. China, the International Network on Small Hydro Power (INSHP) was founded in 1994 in Hangzhou, China. With its headquarters located at the International Center on Small Hydro Power (ICSHP), INSHP serves as an international NGO aiming to promote the development of small hydropower worldwide.
INSHP is the first China-based international organization with over 400 members from 80 countries and 7 demonstration bases (zones) in Jinhua and Lishui in Zhejiang province, Chenzhou and Changsha in Hunan province, Zhangye in Gansu province, Nanjing in Jiangsu province and Xingshan in Hubei province.
With commitment to promoting the development of global small hydropower and responding to and implementing the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development Goals, INSHP set up two special working committees namely the Multi-Energy Complementary Committee in September 2021 and the Committee on Promoting Rural Revitalization with Green Small Hydropower in May 2025 correspondingly.
