To promote South-South Cooperation in renewable energy between Cities of China and developing countries, the UN Office for South-South Cooperation and the International Centre on Small Hydropower jointly hosted an Online Experience Sharing Event on Renewable Energy on the afternoon of 4 November. It has invited representatives from relevant cities and renewable energy institutions at home and abroad to share their renewable energy development issues, explore cooperation, promote South-South cooperation among developing countries, and contribute to building a community with a shared future for mankind and realizing the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. Ms. Huang Yan, Deputy Director of the International Centre on Small Hydropower, and Mr. Sun Dingding, Project Coordinator of the UN Office for South-South Cooperation, delivered speeches respectively. Mr. Dong Guofeng, Division Chief of the South-south Cooperation of the International Centre on Small Hydropower chaired the meeting.
Ms. Huang Yan pointed out in her speech that mature, clean and renewable energy sources such as hydropower, wind power and solar energy are playing an important role in global energy supply and greenhouse gas emission reduction, that the event coincides with the opening of the 26th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP26) and in the context of global efforts to address climate issues, representatives of various cities and experts in the renewable energy industry shared typical experience in development, construction and international cooperation. She suggested that all parties focus on practical actions, promote South-South cooperation in renewable energy through multilateral platforms, draw on each other's strengths and achieve cooperative development, promote coordination between economic and social development and ecological protection, jointly respond to climate change and other global challenges, and promote global sustainable development. Ms. Sun Dingding expressed her gratitude to the co-organizers of the event, mayors and other participants in her video address. She pointed out that renewable energy is an important field of South-South cooperation and an important carrier of the URBAN project of the UN Office for South-South Cooperation supported by the Chinese government. The Chinese government strongly supports South-South cooperation in the field of renewable energy and has conducted fruitful cooperation with developing countries. This exchange event is a vivid practice of international cooperation on urban renewable energy between various cities and participants. It is hoped that all parties will further deepen project cooperation and jointly promote international cooperation on renewable energy under the framework of South-South cooperation.
