On June 14, the first plenary meeting of Technical Committee on Small Hydropower (ISO/TC 339) of the International Organization for Standardization was held in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province. Mr. Zhang Jianyun, Chairman of the Technical Committee and Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, presided over the meeting and delivered an opening speech, and Mr. Fu Wenbiao, Primary Counsel of the Department of Standards and Innovation Management of the State Administration of Market Supervision and Administration, attended the meeting and delivered a speech.

At the meeting, the Technical Project Manager of ISO Central Secretariat introduced the requirements for the work of ISO and Technical Committees; the representative of United Nations Industrial Development Organization made a liaison organization report; the Chinese delegation introduced the new work project proposal Small Hydropower - Terminology, and an overview of the small hydropower industry in China. The meeting discussed and clarified the name and scope of TC339, reviewed the draft Strategic Business Plan (SBP) for comments and the status of comments, and discussed the establishment of liaison organizations with relevant institutions and the organization of the next plenary meeting.

The ISO Technical Committee on Small Hydropower was established in May 2022, with the Secretariat located at the International Center on Small Hydro Power of the Ministry of Water Resources, which is the first ISO Technical Committee in China's water industry. At present, ISO/TC 339 has 12 P member countries (participating member countries) such as China, Finland and India, and 16 O member countries (observing member countries) such as Australia, Austria and Brazil. Next, ISO/TC 339 will start the ISO standard preparation project, explore the way of internationalization of group standards, and explore the development of international standards for green small hydropower certification.

Representatives from Finland, India, Italy, Kenya, Nigeria, France, the ISO Central Secretariat, the United Nations Industrial Development Organization, IEC/TC4 and TC339 Secretariat as well as other institutions participated in the meeting online. The Chinese delegation consisting of 11 experts from the International Network on Small Hydro Power, China Institute of Water Resources and Hydropower Research, National Research Institute for Rural Electrification, Ministry of Water Resources, Huadong Engineering Corporation Limited, and Nanjing Nanrui Water Conservancy Technology Co., Ltd. attend the meeting.
