The 2nd Plenary Meeting of ISO/TC339 was Held

On May 22, 2024, the 2nd Plenary Meeting of ISO/TC 339 was held in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province, in a hybrid format. The meeting was chaired by Mr. Zhang Jianyun, the Chairman of ISO/TC339 and Academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering. More than 40 representatives from 9 countries including Brazil, Egypt, India, Indonesia, Italy, Kenya, Nigeria and Russia ISO Central Secretariat, UNIDO, IEC/TC4 and TC339 Secretariat attended the meeting. As the national mirror committee, the International Center on Small Hydro Power (ICSHP) organized a Chinese delegation 10 experts to participate in the meeting. Ms Li Yubing, Deputy Director of Standards Innovative Management Department of the Standardization Administration of China, and Ms Ni Li, Deputy Director of the Department of International Cooperation, Science and Technology of the Ministry of Water Resources attended the meeting and delivered welcome speeches.

The Committee Manager reported on the changes in member countries and liaison committees as well as its work progress since the first plenary meeting last year. Technical project manager of ISO Central Secretariat introduced the changes in job requirements and guidelines of ISO technical committees. The delegations from China and India presented new work item proposals and reported on the development of their respective small hydro power industry, while the representative of UNIDO made a liaison organization report. The meeting discussed and approved the proposals for relevant new work items and relevant matters for the next plenary meeting.

In 2022, ISO/TC 339 (small hydropower plants) was established. In 2023, the International Center on Small Hydro Power was officially approved to undertake the specific work of the secretariat and domestic mirror committee. According to the resolutions of the first plenary meeting, the scope of ISO/TC 339 is to develop international standards in the field of site selection planning, design, construction and management for SHP plants development up to 30 MW. Next, ISO/TC 339 will accelerate the development of ISO standards, strengthen the dissemination and application of SHP international standards, and invite more countries and international organizations to participate in the international standardization of small hydro power, continuously expanding the influence of ISO/TC339.
