On March 27-28, 2025, the Belt and Road Energy Partnership Cooperation Network (hereinafter the BREP Cooperation Network) Interconnectivity Working Group on Electric Power (hereinafter the “Working Group”) convened for its 2025 Plenary Meeting at the International Center on Small Hydro Power (ICSHP) in Hangzhou, alongside a Special Seminar on Belt and Road Energy Cooperation. This significant event was hosted by the Global Energy Interconnection Development and Cooperation Organization (GEIDCO), with co-hosting support from ICSHP and Zhejiang University (ZJU).
Notable attendees included Yang Yang, Division Chief of the Comprehensive Division of International Department of the National Energy Administration of China, Zhou Yuanbing, Deputy Secretary General of GEIDCO, Xu Jincai, Director General of ICSHP, and Peng Lieping, Secretary of the Party Committee of the College of Electrical Engineering at ZJU, all of whom delivered inspiring speeches.

Dr. Xu provided an introduction to ICSHP and highlighted its key contributions to the BREP Cooperation Network and electric power interconnectivity. He also underscored the crucial role of hydropower as a renewable energy source in ensuring the safe and stable operation of power systems while advancing global energy transformation.
Representatives from over 30 member organizations engaged in lively discussions centered on two vital themes: advancing key projects in countries along the Belt and Road and exploring innovative policies and drivers for renewable energy development. Their collaborative efforts yielded valuable insights and suggestions to facilitate the implementation of renewable energy projects in the region. Participants also had the opportunity to tour the Advanced Semiconductor Research Institute at the Hangzhou Xiaoshan International Science and Technology Innovation Center.

Looking ahead, ICSHP remains committed to the Principle of Extensive Consultation, Joint Contribution and Shared Benefits, aiming to strengthen collaboration with Working Group members and accelerate the development of clean energy and electric power interconnectivity in Belt and Road countries and regions, collectively striving for high-quality advancements in the Belt and Road initiative.
