On September 10, 2025, during the parallel forum entitled "Technology Innovation and Standards Leadership: Advancing Energy Transition through Small Hydropower and Multi-Energy Complementarity" of the 7th Global Energy Interconnection Conference (SE14), the unveiling ceremony of the Pingdingshan International Innovation Cooperation Center of Electrical Industry (hereinafter referred to as the "Innovation Center") of the International Center on Small Hydro Power (ICSHP) was officially held in Beijing National Convention Center. Mr. Xu Jincai, Director General of the International Center on Small Hydro Power (ICSHP) and International Network on Small Hydro Power (INSHP), and Mr. Duan Zhiguang, Vice Mayor of Pingdingshan Municipal People's Government jointly inaugurated the Innovation Center. Government officials, energy experts and representatives from Kyrgyz Republic, Burundi and Mexico witnessed the ceremony, opening a new chapter of international cooperation in electrical industry and small hydropower sector.
The International Center on Small Hydro Power and the Pingdingshan Municipal People's Government have officially signed a strategic cooperation framework agreement on August 1, 2025, focusing on deep collaboration in areas such as enterprise going global, science and education integration, industrial transformation and upgrading, and green digital trade. The establishment of the innovation center will provide physical support and a platform guarantee for the implementation of the above-mentioned cooperation tasks, and promote the transformation of cooperation from framework agreements to specific practices.
The joint establishment of the Innovation Center with Pingdingshan City represents a strategic alignment based on resource endowment and the needs of industrial development. It is an important measure to deepen complementary advantages and achieve mutual benefit and win-win results. It is also a specific practice to respond to the global call for clean and low-carbon energy transition and support the national "dual carbon" goals.
In the future, the Innovation Center will focus on technological innovation and standard guidance, promoting in-depth collaboration between Pingdingshan electrical industry and global small hydropower resources, accelerate the commercialization of technological achievements and the implementation of international demonstration projects, provide high-quality solutions for the clean energy transformation of the "the Belt and Road" countries, and contribute Chinese wisdom and strength to the construction of a new power system with new energy at its coreand the promotion of clean and low-carbon transformation of global energy.
