The Regional Seminar on SHP Development for Africa was held in Harare, Zimbabwe
The regional seminar on small hydropower development for Africa was held from 28-29 November 2005 in Harare, Zimbabwe with the support of the IN-SHP, UNIDO and the Government of Zimbabwe. The seminar had participants from the Southern Africa Development Community (SADC) countries, and resource persons from all parts of the globe, especially those distinguished experts connected with the working of IN-SHP. Presentations were made by experienced personnel drawn from Power Mate International, MOEPD, IN-SHP, as well as other contributors with relevant experience and knowledge in SHP. There were also discussions of cooperation on SHP projects between China and Mozambique, Democratic Republic of Congo, Zimbabwe and other SADC countries during the seminar. It is expected, as the follow-up activity, a Chinese delegation of potential investors will visit these countries in the near future.
The 2nd Hydro Power for Today Conference ¨C Call for papers
Until the March, 15th the IC-SHP will accept papers for the 2 nd Hydro Power for Today Conference which is co-organized by International Center on Small Hydro Power (ICSHP), International Centre for Hydropower (ICH) and endorsed by International Energy Agency (IEA) and United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO). It will be held in Hangzhou (China) in April, 22 ¨C25, 2006 and it will provide the platform to discuss, exchange and formulate effective, sustainable hydropower policies, which address the needs of all concerned parties by bringing together hydropower developers, policymakers, think tanks, and representatives of the various stakeholders. Happy Birthday IN-SHP!
Past December 12th was the eleventh anniversary of the International Network for Small Hydro Power.
In fact in December 1994, 23 countries and international organizations held a meeting in Hangzhou where they signed the Hangzhou Pronunciamento and announced the stablishment of IN-SHP with its headquarters, Hangzhou.
New Staff arrive at IN-CHP ¨C 2nd Part
During the last moths new staff came to the IC-SHP. Here we publish a short profile and the main activities of them.
Fulvio Bartolucci: Program Officer - Deputy Head of the China¡¯s Affairs Division Our Italian Program Officer has a background in international relations, a MA in Sustainable Development and quite an experience in international project development. His tasks cover a broad range, from strategic development of ICSHP activities to technology transfer programs, to project proposal drafting.
Erika Imhof: Program Officer - Multilateral Development Affairs Division Erika is a lawyer with a MA in International Relations, focus in the Latin American Region with experience in international contract law. She has been recruited to promote the creation of a Sub Center in the Region, give advice in IC-SHP legal issues and help in project proposals.
Li Huizhong: Accountant - Administration Department Nicholas is proficiency in accounting. He studied at the Zhejiang Gongshang (Industrial and commercial) University from 1998-2002 and also has work experience in the Holley Group.
Carlos Velasquez: Senior Program Officer - TCDC Division Carlos has a Masters degree on Electric Power Systems and over 30 years professional experience. His main tasks at IC-SHP will be to strenghten technical Center activities in Latin America and manage constitution of a Sub Center in these Region.
Zheng Yalai: International Trading Affairs Assistant - China¡¯s Affairs Division Melanie has a background in English language and international trade also had work experience in international trading. She has been recruited to assist in international trading affairs and translation.

The Independent Power Producers' Association of Nepal (IPPAN) presents its
new research activities
The Independent power Producers' Association is a Nepal based membership organization that its main purpose is to act a link between the private sector and government organizations to harness the immense hydropower potential for the economic growth of the country. During the 2005, the IPPAN conducted two research activities jointly with the Confederation of Indian Industries. One based on Rural Electrification in the South Asia Region (RESAR) and the other based on areas o cooperation between India and Nepal for Hydropower development. Renewable Energy for development in Angola, with Humana, people to people
movement
Humana people to people is a broad development movement with branches all over the
world. They have been a spearhead of RE development, with the construction of the
world¡¯s biggest windmill back in 1977. Their development work in Angola and technical
skills offer a good base for hydropower development, in an area - Bié¦ Province - with
high potential but little energy supply. ICSHP will be working in the next months to
develop a joint program proposal to submit for funding. If interested in joining the

The s.c.Rachitan Energy Product s.r.l. has recently finished a Pre-feasibility
Study for small and micro hydropower station in the Arjoci village in Romania
The s.c. Rachitan Energy Product s.r.l. is a Romania based company that has recently
finished a prefeasibility study for a micro hydropower station. The objective CHE
ARJOCI will be located in Gorj county, Godinesti commune, Arjoci Village, at the
confluence of the Orlea stream with the Tismana River in Romania, being 10 km
downstream from the last small hydropower station Cerna, Motru, Tismana (Romania).
It will ensure a higher social standard to the 150.000 people living in the area. For that
purpose, a partnership with the local government was agreed upon. Nowadays, they are
looking for sources of funding. If interested in the project contact erikaimhof@inshp.org.
Funding Opportunities
The Inter American Foundation Grant Program
The Inter-American Foundation (IAF) provides grants to nongovernmental and
community-based organizations in Latin America and the Caribbean for innovative,
sustainable and participatory self-help programs. The IAF primarily funds partnerships
among grassroots and nonprofit organizations, businesses and local governments,
directed at improving the quality of life of poor people and strengthening participation,
accountability and democratic practices.
