CDM Seminar in Shanghai
ICSHP participated in one event organized by the Sino Italian environmental cooperation programme and the Shanghai Environmental Protection Bureau Training Program, called ¡°Capacity Building on Clean Development Mechanism¡±, held from 23to 25 March 2006 in Shanghai. The event was an important step in the awareness building process about the role China is bound to play in the global CDM market. Until now China has been left behind by India and other Latin America countries, in terms of number of projects. But it is already top of the list concerning amount of Certified Emission Reductions produced.
A number of very different stakeholders from different part of China took part in the seminar, which presented as a case study the Yuzaikou project, one of the first registered CDM by China and the first in the SHP field.
The 15th Chinese National Association of SHP Equipment Manufacturers (NASHPEM) annual meeting was held from the 16th to the 18th of March 2006
More than 80 representatives engaged in water conservation system, equipment manufacturing industry and research institutes from all over the country attended the conference. Mr. He Zhicheng, secretary of NASHPEM presented a report summing up the Association¡¯s work in 2005. After discussion, Prof. Tong Jiandong, chairman of NASHPEM made a presentation regarding the new features and problems of SHP equipment market. Representatives also visited Zhenghe turbine manufacturing Co. ltd. and the Wuyi Mountain.
Members of NASHPEM also discussed the work plan for 2006. They decided to improve medium & small hydro equipment system evaluation in order to enhance products¡¯ competitive power. With this scope, a study tour of NASHPEM¡¯s members to Europe will be organized during the year. The secretariat of NASHPEM will continue to provide consultation, research and new technology¡¯s development and publishing services.

UNIDO¡¯s General Director in Shanghai
Last March, 28th, an INSHP¡¯s delegation met the UNIDO¡¯s official delegation to China, led by Kandeh Yunkella, the General Director of the organization. During the event, Prof. Tong Jiandong exposed INSHP¡¯s past activities and future achievements regarding to worldwide SHP development.

The Chinese Vice Minister of Water Resources visited ICSHP
The Chinese Vice Minister of Water Resources, Mr. Hu Siyi, paid a visit to ICSHP on 4th April. ICSHP was funded and is actually supported by the Chinese Ministry of Water Resources. Both institutions has developed very strong cooperation in the field of small hydropower. Vice Minister exchanged views and opinions with our Director, Prof. Tong, He was keen to cooperate with ICSHP in the further. He also expressed that he would attend the upcoming conference in April.

New International Staff at ICSHP
Mikel Aguirre ¨C Development Project Officer.
Mikel graduated in Environmental Sciences at the Autonomous University of Barcelona, with a focus on GIS&RS and Ecological Economics. He just joined the IN-SHP and will contribute to develop several projects within this organization. Contact: mikelaguirre@inshp.org.
ICSHP Visits Chongqing Hightech zone
Between the 28th and the 30th of April, and ICSHP delegation has been invited by the government of Chongqing to visit the new High-Tech Industry Development Zone and the Chongqing Ecology Business District.
The High-Tech Industry Development Zone is composed of many specific development parks, like Chongqing biology and biochemistry pharmacy technology development park; the software incubation park; the mechanical and electronic integration park, the optoelectronic technology development park and others.
Ecology Business District instead is an experimental zone, which combine industrial, residential and business development with ecological and urban planning criteria based on a life quality concept quite unique in China.
ICSHP held a number of high profile meeting with the local government, with representative of the development zone agency, and with the most interesting companies investing in the area. These talks paved the way to future multilevel cooperation on high tech and SHP, especially in the field of communication and remote control.
  
Members' Forum
Promoting energy renewable generation with the Federation of Renewable Energies of Central America and the Caribbean
Last February 15-17th 2006 the VII Central American Regional Forum was held in San Salvador by the Energy and Environment Partnership. With this year¡¯s topic ¡°Incentives for Renewable Energy and Bio Fossil¡±, a parallel event was carried out: the constitution of the Federation of Renewable Energies for Central America and the Caribbean, (FERCCA). ?The initiative, conceived several years ago, aims to develop initiatives for renewable energy¡¯s barrier and restriction elimination, best practices promotion, effective legal framework creation and fossil fuel substitution. Funding Opportunities
Advancing Capacity to Support Climate Change Adaptation (ACCCA)
Nine projects from Asia and African countries are expected to be awarded grants of up to USED 70,000 each. The lead applicant must be employed with an institution based in a developing country of Africa or Asia; proposals must have at least two institutional partners that include one stakeholder organization and one scientific organization. Outline proposals received by 22 May 2006 will be reviewed based upon criteria described in the call. Roughly 12 applicants will be invited by end of June to prepare a full proposal and to attend a project initiation workshop (tentatively scheduled for late August). Project Period: Projects selected for awards are expected to begin in January 2007 and be completed by June 2008 (18 month duration). Intelligent Energy Europe ¨C Call for proposals 2006
In total, approximately €51 million of financial support will be made available.
Successful applications can expect to receive financial support covering up to 50 per cent of the total costs. The deadline for sending applications will probably be the end of October 2006. More information in:
